Greetings Canton Lacrosse families,

Welcome to the 2023 Lacrosse season.  Thank you for your patience as we transition to the SportsEngine App and software, while it was a challenge getting things going, it will be worth it!  We will officially start the season the week of April 17th and conclude by June 18th.  There may be opportunities to get the kids out there sooner, however, field and practice space is very limited this time of year.  Please download and monitor the sportsengine app as that will be your best source for schedule information.  Teams will be generated soon, at that point your child will be assigned to a team so you can communicate with your coaches directly.

Practices are typically held Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6, with a possible second practice or game over the weekend.  The capital project at Canton Central School is going to directly affect our normal practice space.  We will do our best to keep everyone in the same spot and at the same time.  For the early part of the season we will use a variety of locations, including Canton Central, SLU, SUNY Canton and the Canton Pavilion.  It is very important that you check the location of your practice on the sportsengine app!  As the weather improves we hope to have a permanent outdoor location by the month of May.

The Prek/K and 1/2 groups will participate in playdays held on Saturdays or Sundays starting April 23rd @ St. Lawrence Central.  Once this schedule is finalized it will be added to SportsEngine.  These groups will also have an opportunity to play in a tournament or two at the end of the season in June.

The 3/4 and 5/6 groups will participate in the North Country Youth Lacrosse League.  They will play fellow north country teams both home  and away, and will end with a league championship tournament @ SUNY Potsdam on June 10th.

Equipment:

All lacrosse players need:

Helmet, Mouthpiece, Gloves, Shoulder Pads, Arm Guards and a regulation size Lacrosse Stick.

At the younger levels, hockey equipment is commonly used.  As they get older, I highly recommend transitioning to lacrosse gear as it will protect them better as the game gets more physical.

Let me know if you have any questions about equipment or are lacking anything, there are many local resources to get everyone geared up.

Denbleyker Tournament

We are working on securing a time and location to be able to host our home tournament this year.  We will not be able to host in early May as we have historically, it will likely be in early June.

If you are interested in volunteering with any of the groups (especially at the prek/k level), please let me know.  It is important that all coaches be registered ASAP so the background check can be performed.  Coaches who have not completed the background check will NOT be allowed to participate until it is complete.

See you on the field!
